Walking along the pedestrian East Street toward Red Lion Street in the medieval market town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire, you’ll come across a most unusual sight. Iron bollards that would normally be unadorned have been snugly fitted with handknitted, multicolored patchwork cozies (like a teapot cozy). It’s not known who’s responsible for this riotous display, but the nearby town hall seems to have no objection, and locals and visitors alike welcome their presence. From time to time, as they discolor, the cozies are mysteriously changed. Bizarre in the extreme, they will unfailingly put a smile on your face.

Know Before You Go

The bollard cozies are located out of the Metropolitan Line subway station (at the end of the Metropolitan Line), about 40 minutes from Baker Street station. Trains run every half hour each way. Turn left into Station Road, then left into East Street. Walk up about 200 yards and they're on the right.
