Video Wonder: A Drone’s Eye View of Staten Island’s Ship Graveyard
Check out these seven minutes of drone footage taken over an urban marine cemetery—the Arthur Kill Ship Graveyard, in the Arthur Kill waterway between New York’s Staten Island and New Jersey. A few decades ago, there were as many as 200 abandoned ships haunting the waterway, but kayakers report that only 25 or so remain today, their useful parts stripped or stolen.
Slightly eerie music with a hint of rainfall plays in the background of the video as the drone takes you over, around, and right up next to the rusted metal vessels. It is both desolate and exquisite, soothing and unsettling. What lurks within those abandoned cabins and dark, underwater chambers?
