Off-Centered Ale Trail: Baltimore

Baltimore is an easy day trip from hubs along the East Coast, full of things to do and see. One of the city’s most famous attractions, the National Aquarium, even has a special connection to SeaQuench Ale, Dogfish Head’s session sour quencher. The water used to brew it is an exact replica of the water in the Chesapeake Bay—courtesy of the aquarium’s water experts.

We love the National Aquarium, but (in true Atlas Obscura fashion) have found a whole sea of lesser-known destinations to pique your interest, too. Our Baltimore guide is full of shipwrecks, swimming holes, and surprising histories. While Isaac Emerson certainly wasn’t thinking of us when he built his famous Bromo-Seltzer clocktower, we couldn’t help but see a connection between his legendary hangover cure and Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA. We saw echoes of Flesh & Blood IPA in a set of miniature crime scene dioramas and SeaQuench Ale in a coastal ship graveyard.
