BAM Hamm Archives
A collection of playbills, photographs, and other memorabilia from the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) was located in Brooklyn Heights from 1861 to 1903, when the first theater burned to the ground. BAM debuted its current Fort Greene home in 1908 and opened additional performance spaces nearby in 1987 and 2012.
Musical, theatrical, and other history was made at these various theaters. The BAM Hamm Archives, named for philanthropist Charles J. Hamm, collects and preserves materials from the institution’s history.
The archives contain approximately 3,000 linear feet of material, from 1857 to the present, including newspaper clippings, photographs, books, playbills, and much more.
