Just beyond the bustling towns of North Carolina’s Research Triangle, sculptor Ben Harris has assembled a vibrant and reflective roadside community of futuristic figures. The sculptures range from the whimsical to the fearsome.
Harris’s metal sculptures represent the ongoing legacies and livelihoods of the varying communities across the south. Working with salvaged farm equipment and other scrap materials, Harris’s work aligns with that of artists such as Lonnie Holley and Vollis Simpson. His work focuses on new ideas and endless creative possibilities utilizing recycled materials.
While the process and materials are decidedly industrial, the result is an unexpected and otherworldly visual experience amidst the otherwise pastoral backdrop of rural NC.
