Bighorn sheep roam freely around Radium Hot Springs, occasionally venturing right into the village center for a stroll and, in mating season, headbanging session. The local herd consists of roughly 140 of these charismatic megafauna, who have long been a point of pride for local residents.
Since 2021, an imposing steel sculpture of a set of the sheep’s distinctive horns greets visitors to the village. Standing 20 feet tall and 40 feet wide, Bighorns is the work of artist Adam Meikle and Idea 64 Projects, a fabrication shop in Salmon Arm. Although the horns are still under construction, they are already worthy of a detour.
