Cairndhu House
The ruins of a once-grand mansion in Northern Ireland are now thought to be haunted.
Reportedly one of Northern Ireland’s most haunted houses, Cairndhu has a rich history of grandeur and ruin.
Originally built as a grand summer residence in 1875 Cairndhu House now lies in extreme disrepair and has been the site of numerous reported ghost sightings.
Located off the Coast road in Carnfunnock Country park, the hidden mansion has laid empty for decades. Throughout its long history it has been a stately home for a wealthy Scottish industrialist, a military hospital, a convalescent home and most recently a film location. There have been numerous reports of paranormal activity over the years from ghosts appearing in windows to unexplained noises heard by caretakers.
Much of its original grandeur has been lost through time. The house was closed by the Department of Health in 1986 and since then has been left to fall into ruin and ravaged by the elements creating its spooky and Gothic appearance.
