This medieval castle in Bassano del Grappa was the seat of power for Ezzelino III da Romano, one of Italy’s most notorious tyrants, kn0wn for his immense cruelty.

During the Middle Ages, conflicts between Romano and the pope ended with the tyrant’s exile from the church. A crusade was even launched by the church to topple his reign.

From a narrow passage behind the Ser Ivano tower, you can reach the outside perimeter of the walls, that boasts multiple panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. After years of restoration work, the castle now operates as an opera house.
