Soon to be President William Henry Harrison was a major proponent for the Cincinnati and Whitewater Canal Tunnel. Mainly because it was to be constructed on his land.  Constructed in 1837, the tunnel was only in use until 1856, after which large floods caused it to be abandoned.

The tunnel has sat empty ever since. Only the northern entrance is left standing, as the southern portion was demolished for an expansion of US 50.
