Doug Padilla's Art Studio
Expansive and colorful studio of Minneapolis art-star, Doug Padilla.
The expansive and wildly colorful studio of artist Doug Padilla was a longtime staple on the Minneapolis art scene. Padilla’s eclectic work ranges from vivid, culturally-focused paintings to multi-layered mixed media and collage work.
A pop in to his studio is definitely worth it for the eye candy alone, from the paint splattered wood floors to the kitchsy religious iconography to the artwork itself, which covers pretty much every surface of the sprawling space.
Take a breather in Padilla’s comfy lounge area (which is enclosed with bone-strung curtains) and ask him about the good old days of the Minneapolis art world–you’re sure to get an interesting history lesson. And if you’re feeling stressed, no worries, just visit Padilla’s meditation room to clear your head.
Update October, 2017: Dougie Padilla’s studio has moved from the California Street building in NE Minneapolis to the shores of Lake Pepin in rural Wisconsin.
