Enchanted Chairs
A collection of throne-inspired sculptures dot the landscape of Wincobank.
A series of chair-like sculptures sit on Centenary Green in England. Completed in 2010, these creative seats represent the work of artists Mike Woods, Ian Cooper and John Getz.
The enchanted chairs were created as part of a public art project, Journey to Hidden Places, which aims to install art in public spaces around Sheffield. Back in 2010, Journey to Hidden Places installed the Lost Gateway in Woolley Woods and is also responsible for the creation of Brendan’s Glove Garden.
Most of the chairs at Wincobank are designed in metal, stone, brick, and wood and feature fantastical shapes and whimsical features such as wings and carved faces.
While the chairs (admittedly) look out of place on the small green landscape of an English working-class suburb, the structures prove thought-provoking and cerebral. Despite being installed back in 2010 and meant for use by the public, the chairs have suffered little damage and vandalism.
