Filoli
This old-world mansion with lush gardens is a gem in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Filoli is a historic country estate located at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains in Woodside, California. The name “Filoli” comes from the owner’s personal motto: “Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life.”
This beautiful mansion was built in 1915 by the owner of what is now PG&E company. It is reminiscent of a wealthy estate you might find on the United States East Coast or in England. Built in the Georgian Style, it has a ballroom, multiple drawing rooms, a dining room, and a kitchen that are open to the public. More impressive still are the grounds of the estate. The owners were avid gardeners, and they created a stunning multi-acre botanical landscape with themed sections. It still requires a fleet of elite gardeners to maintain.
In 1975, the owners of the house sold it to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It is a beautiful space and a welcome respite from fast-paced Silicon Valley life.
