Former Location of Polish Daily Zgoda Newspaper

The onetime prominence of the largely vanished Polish community in Wicker Park still seems evident in the white columned facade of the Polish Daily Zgoda newspaper, founded in 1881, once one of several Polish-language newspapers in Chicago.   Originally a North-Western Trust & Savings Bank, then the Zgoda Daily, now a City Sports store, looking closely, one can still see the frames for the missing “ZGODA” neon signs that hung there into the early 1990s, at which time the building became the sporting-goods store that still occupies the space.
