Frank Sidebottom Statue
A statue honoring Frank Sidebottom, a beloved cartoon figure from Timperley.
The Frank Sidebottom statue in Timperley gives fans a chance to remember and honor the madcap comedian. Sidebottom was the alter ego of comedian Chris Sievey. The character exploded in popularity during the 1990s when the Fantastic Shed Show made its debut featuring Sidebottom as its main character.
The character was such an iconic symbol for Timperley that two films have explored his and Sievey’s legacy. The first was “Frank”, a fictional narrative released in 2014, directed by Lenny Abrahamson and starring Michael Fassbender as Sidebottom. “Being Frank”, a 2018 documentary focused more on Sievey as a comedian, and was directed by Steve Sullivan. Both honor the memory of Chris Sievey himself, who passed away in 2010.
The statue is also posthumous as it was unveiled in 2013. It is the work of Colin Spofforth. During the Christmas season, the people of Timperley dress the statue in Santa outfits, which offers a festive photo opportunity for visitors.
