Remote memorial to the tragic passing of Andrew John Phillips, the head stockman at Bowen Downs Station in 1920, who drowned on horseback, presumably crossing some body of water.
His epitaph reads: “Accidentally drowned on horseback on 27.4.1920. Aged 30.” At the end, a final line reads ”He could swim but his horse could not.”
Given the size of the plot, one might wonder if Mr. Phillips was buried here with his horse.
