Also known as “Parkway Man,” this statue of a steelworker is situated just off a pathway through Bowden Housteads Woods in Handsworth.

As travelers drive into Sheffield along the Parkway, the major dual carriageway that runs between the city of Sheffield and Junction 33 of the M1, the statue is just past a large supermarket at the Handsworth junction. The cast-iron statue stands nearly 10 feet tall and weighs more than three tons.

The statue was commissioned by the Sheffield City Council Heritage Woodland Team as part of a project known as Fuelling a Revolution. It was designed by Jason Thomson in 2001 and was cast by H.Downs & Sons Ltd.

Know Before You Go

From the far end of the car park of ASDA supermarket, head towards Sheffield into the woods and along the path and you’ll find the sculpture on the right of the path.
