Ix Art Park
An abandoned textile mill that is now home to art and concerts.
The Ix Art Park, part of the broader IX Project, is a community space in Charlottesville that promotes art, inclusivity, and community empowerment.
What would become the IX Project was once a burgeoning textile mill and factory and the largest employer of Charlotteville, Frank Ix & Sons. The mill suffered a decline until ceasing operations in 1999.
Fortunately, the vacant factory was repurposed as real estate for small businesses ranging from bike shops to breweries and offices. What the IX Project is best known for is the Ix Art Park, an acre of sculptures, picnic tables, and creative space.
The Ix Art Park regularly hosts festivals, concerts, spoken-word poetry readings, and more. During the summer, camps are available for children of all ages, with lessons on mythology, art, and science.
