A simple monument to pilot John Duigan and the first flight of an Australian-designed and built aircraft.

In July 1910, John Robertson Duigan took an airplane that he had designed and built with his brother Reginald up in the air. The first flight was done at Spring Plains in Mia Mia, where the aircraft managed to fly seven meters. Over the next few months, Duigan took his Australian-made craft on higher and longer flights— by the end of 1910, he had managed a flight of one kilometer at an altitude of 30 meters.
