Johnstone History Museum
Learn local history while picking up groceries at this museum tucked inside a supermarket.
In the town of Johnstone, shoppers at the local branch of Morrison’s supermarket can brush up on their local history while picking up groceries.
A few feet away from stacks of cans and frozen goods, Johnstone’s history is preserved in a one-room museum. The space features displays, artifacts, books, and photographs archiving the area’s industrial and cultural history. Visitors can learn about the town’s once-booming textile industry as well as coal-mining disasters and the local impact of World War I.
Volunteers from the Johnstone History Society staff the museum and are available to answer any questions visitors might have.
