Erected in 2006 just outside the Asbury Park Convention Hall, this monument was the brainchild of Doc Holiday and Garry Tallent. The two came up with the idea over lunch one day to build a memorial and arrange a concert at the Stone Pony featuring musicians who played a significant role in carving out the distinctive regional sound.

S.O.A.P. combines elements of rock, pop, doo-wop, blues, jazz, and rhythm & blues. By far, the most recognizable name on the list of artists who brought this vast amalgamation of styles to life is Bruce Springsteen, whose legendary career dates back to early shows on the very boardwalk where the monument now sits.

The musicians whose names appear on the monument include several members of Springsteen’s crew, the E Street Band, including Steve Van Zandt, Clarence Clemons, and Tallent, along with other famous players.

A total of 271 names were nominated to appear on the monument. In the end, only 32 met the qualifications. The concert and dedication of the remembrance were held on December 9, 2006. It was such a success that a second concert was scheduled and held on August 29, 2008, during which additional names were announced as additions to the monument.
