Museum of Museums
This contemporary art museum is filled with other, smaller museums, which feature work from artists primarily in the Pacific Northwest.
The Museum of Museums (MoM) is a contemporary art space that opened in Seattle in 2020. It has three floors and a variety of exhibitions that range from traditional art to immersive installations. In addition to its main shows, MoM houses a miniature museum called SMCA, a model apartment that houses the collection of a local artist, a children’s exhibition, a four-seat theater, and more.
This Russian nesting doll of a museum is housed in a renovated mid-century medical building on the campus of the Swedish Medical Center. Every aspect of the museum is activated, from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Even the bathrooms are built out into installations, with one completely covered in flowers and another featuring art projected onto the walls.
MoM hosts pop-up events nearly every weekend. Sometimes it’s a vintage clothing mall, other times an art market or a show curated by local artists. The museum makes so much space for local artists to share their work and connect with the community.
It’s nothing like the other museums in Seattle, MoM really seeks to engage a new audience and inspire the community to support their creatives. Museum of Museums seeks to increase the artist population of Seattle, and it is using every tool in its arsenal to do so.
