To visit the sculpture park is to get acquainted with the artist’s inner world. This is deeply personal work, which sculptor Pauls Jaunzems has been creating and displaying just outside his home on the banks of the river Buļļupe since the late 1990s.
Occasionally, you can meet the artist at work and hear his stories of the ever-changing sculpture collection and the thoughts, feelings, and emotions behind them.
It’s hard to believe that this forested pocket between two rivers and the sea is part of a capital city. It’s like a gift to urbanites, a haven where they can rest and recharge in nature. Historically, many families living here made a living from the sea and fishing.
Know Before You Go
Visits are free but donations are encouraged via the box on site. Bus 36 takes passengers to the nearest stop, from which it takes 5-10 minutes to walk to the park. From the center of town, take bus 3 to its final stop and switch to bus 36 or walk for just over an hour through the woods. Note that bus 36 doesn’t run very often.
