Rock Hill's Poetree
A library of poems cascade off the branches of this unsuspecting tree.
This humble tree, located down an alleyway in the heart of Rock Hill, South Carolina, is blooming year-round with scribbles from its visitors. Its branches are equipped with strings and clips, inviting those who stumble upon it to contribute their own writings.
The Pop-Up Poetree project was conceived by South Carolina-based artist Robert Matheson, who constructed the initial installation behind his art studio at 1213 Main St in Newberry, SC. Painter Harriet Goode and Author Terry Roueche teamed up and were granted the rights to spread the project’s roots over to Rock Hill.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to contribute to the Poetree. Scrap paper and writing utensils can be found in a painted mailbox off to the side of the tree.
