Stones carved and painted 15,000 years ago decorate this extraordinary example of pre-historic art in France.

Discovered by Lucien Rousseau in 1927, the site has been a center of research ever since. The extraordinary carved frieze was found in 1950, depicting bison, horses, ibex, cats, women’s bodies, and human faces along almost 60 feet of cave wall.

The rock shelter cave is not open to the public, but an interpretive visitor’s center in Angles-sur-l’Anglin provides a virtual peek within.
