Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum
Joseph and Victor Stanzel were Texas farm boys who built a model aircraft empire.
Though their names might be as famous as certain other brothers in aviation history, Joseph and Victor Stanzel played an important role in history for aircraft lovers. In the 20th century, they designed and manufactured some of the most popular model airplane kits in the world.
One can learn all about the Stanzels and their amazing flying machines at the Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum in Schulenburg, Texas. The main museum features interactive exhibits and displays that tell the story of Joseph and Victor Stanzel’s contributions to model aircraft designing and manufacturing, which began in the 1920s and ended in 1997.
The original Victor Stanzel Company manufacturing building was constructed in 1935, a decade after Victor began the hobby airplane business in their family home. The museum’s factory wing gives visitors an opportunity to experience the development and manufacturing of model aircraft in an era when aviation and rocket technology was in its infancy.
Across the museum complex grounds sits the Stanzel family homestead, a tidy, turn-of-the-century home that has been restored and furnished with items from the late 1800s.
