Stoke Park Golf and Country Club
Site of the golf match between James Bond and Goldfinger.
This entry is a stub
The famous location of the golf match between James Bond and Goldfinger has now become a high-end destination and the location for films such as Bridget Jones Diary. The 27 holes include the design premise, hole No. 17, for the No. 12 hole at Augusta, perhaps the hardest short par three in tournament golf.
The entire course was reclaimed from potato farming after the Second World War. It’s longer history is wonderfully rich. John Penn, returning from the new United States used a large proportion of the £130,000 the new United States government paid for his family’s 26-million acre (110,000 km²) plot in Pennsylvania to construct most of the estate as it is seen today. It’s worth staying overnight in one of the 14 or so themed bedrooms.
Know Before You Go
It is a short drive from Heathrow but traffic on the M4 is always a nightmare. Be careful of the speed cameras as you drive through Slough and Farnham Royal. While living in the UK, I was caught on camera on my way to Stoke Park on Farnham Road in Slough. The fine for my ticket was based on my previous years income. My penalty for doing 34 in a 30 mph zone was Gbp 347.00 ( equivalent to $545.00!). Ouch.
